Commerce, CA

Three families are grieving the loss of their sons today after that horrific AMTRAK accident on Monday evening in the Eastside industrial community of Commerce.  Investigators are still trying to piece together the details of the case, and why three young boys were walking on top of the very dangerous commuter railroad tracks that dominate a large portion of this part of Los Angeles just east of Downtown.

Late Tuesday, members of the Los Angeles County Coroner's office identified the three boys who were killed as the following:

  • Anthony Sandoval, 15
  • Gilbert Correa, 17
  • Joseph Hernandez (no age given)

All three lived in the city of Montebello, which is located north of Commerce.  Their bodies were found at the accident scene that was located at the 6500 block of 26th Street.  The AMTRAK train that struck and killed the three boys was a "Surfliner" that runs daily to and from Los Angeles and San Diego.  More than 125 people were on the train at the time of the deadly accident.  The train was delayed more than 5 hours according to records I obtained from railroad officials.

If you have a special comment, or knew the victims, please feel free to share you thoughts in my comment section.  So sad.  My heart and Prayers go out to the families and friends of the victims.  T

Some in the media are saying cops claim that that they were "gang members" out on a "tagging" mission. Why do they always try to make people "gangster" all the time. Shame on the cops. Lets keep these families in our prayers tonight.

My boyfriend knows 2 of those guys & goes to school with them & are on the same team.. He also said they WERE tagging.. It was a dumb move that they made that costs them their life unfortunately.. I send my blessing to their family.

Tony's funeral services will be held tomorrow (12/21/10 at 6 p.m.)in a church located in the corner of 4th and Whittier Boulevard, city of Montebello. Just to let everyone know he was not tagging, he was walking home. Alot of the kids walk home this way and it must stop. The city should be held accountable for this. They know people walk the tracks and do nothing to stop it.

Wow. i Can't believe it, but these things do happen. i can only imagine how their families feel. i send them my prayers, they should just know that they're all in a better place. they'll never have to suffer again. crying won't bring them back, but it's never good to keep everything inside. i know how their families feel. and i know nothing anyone says can make them feel better. they'll think about them everyday and wish it never happen, they'll wish to go back in time and change things but all they can really do is learn to deal. learn to accept the fact that they left before us. but they're okay. their families and friends should just talk of all the great times they shared instead of dwelling on the fact that they're gone. it will be okay, it has to be. i'm going through something similar to this, i just recently lost my father. its the hardest thing i've ever had to live through. but i know he wouldn't want to see me suffer. and im sure neither would these three boys. also the fact that they were tagging doesn't make them less of a person. their families are hurting, have respect. if you don't have anything nice and productive to say then it's best you don't say anything at all.
